The idea „Follow the Vehicle“ is based on a simple principle: two cars, one driver. The superior car driven by a person determines all relevant parameters as its fast, direction, line, drive way or an aim of the drive. Mucha data regarding of wheel movements, acceleration and braking the subordinated vehicle gains by wireless transmission  from the supeprior car. The second car follows the first one until 10 meter distance.

Before the initiation of the drive both of cars identify through a digital code. Testing cars, two cars ŠKODA SUPERB iV, are equipped by hardware and software interfacing as well as high modern technologies based on smart cities technology and intelligent traffic systems. The testing cars follow traffic infrastructure and communicate through Car-to-X. The exchange of data happens by means of the standart for automotive communication ETSI ITS-G5 and mobile networks 4G/LTE and 5G.

To image discerning and identification of three-dimensional objects in surroundings ŠKODA SUPERB iV cars use sensors that are subsequently equipped by a camera system, special sensors, radar systems and communication unit. The testing cars „Follow the Vehicle“ simply reads a set of various data for example current position of the car and parameters related with driving. The systems monitor the surrounding of the car and current traffic in a real time.

One of a project that uses the virtual reality is a vizualozation of FEI building, which aim is to create a real model that can be used for various ways – from practical to entertaining ones like game application. One practical use is a architectural vizualization when the model was a base for a concept of a change in the main space of the building. It was a design change of stairs in the middle of the space in front of the main entrance. The aim was to go through the change in a detail in the virtual reality. The benefit is more realistic point of view than in a tradidtional paper and we cannot lose time by imagination how it could be look like in reality.

The model and implementation is a result of student work in the Blender environment. The vizualization of change came up from the materials of YUAR s.r.o. and its indoor study.

The project of balancing table that serves for stabilization of the roll in certain position, uses a touch site for the imaging of roll position known from a monitor. In this case it is a resistive touch site. The roll causes changes of resistivity of the touch site by its move and the roll is imaged thanks to an analog-digital convertor in two axles at the same time in a real time. This convertor is a part of a control microcomputer.

Measured digital values have to be processsed by a set of filtres to remove unwanted hum as awell as measuring mistakes. Such alterned values can be conveyed on the roll position on the site and roll´s speed and acceleration can be calculated. From these values a needful table inclination is set for the roll countermovement by PID regulator.

For control of inclination servomotors are used and they are controlled by microcomputer. The programme solution has to use FreeRTOS system for sufficient fast reaction that ensures needful fast reactions for all components of the system. The result of the roll you can see in a short presentation.

AQMS is a web for the support of a long-term strategic decide-making that provides needful materials for the strategic planning and decision-making process in the issue of air quality for state bodies. All thanks to user-friendly environment in a form of interactive map. At the same time it provides information for public about air quality and planned measures.

The project includes five cities and their attached functional urban areas (Opava, Ostrava, Opole, Rybnik a Žilina) and whole area called TRITIA (Moravian-Silesian region, Opole and Silesian Voivodeship and Žilina region).

The web is available in for languages: Czech, Slovak, Polish and English.

The web shows mostly the following information:

Modeling of polluted air for endividual polluting substances – suspended particles PM10 a PM2,5, NO2 and benzo(a)pyren.

Emmision in the form of emmision squares for individual polluting particles and objective years divided according to the sources of polluted air.

The way of heating up households and used fuel.

Industrial sources of pollution with generalized emmisons for individual particles and objective years.

On the base of information about body position, movement, shape and change and its parts we can derive facts about a driver´s activity, his mental state and competence for driving a car. Information about the driver´s possible health obstacles can contribute to the higher safety.

It is obvious that states like momentary drowsiness, epileptic fit or heart attack shift the driver´s attention from driving, this could be very dangerous. In such a case it would be appropriate to recognize these states and swich on assistant systems in a car that are able to hand over the driving instead of the driver and prevent thus from potential dangerous traffic situations. Currently we solve the issue thanks to deep neuron nets based on architecture encoder-decoder (the research is still going in the partnership with ŠKODA AUTO a.s.)

Company NXP that is also in the Czech republic holds regularly every year an international competition NXP Cup which students from university, college and high school can attend. FEI became an university for many times that hosted regional level of this competition and not only for whole republic but also for other nations – Slovakia, Poland, Hungery, Ukraine etc. Students can compare their abilities and knowledge with students from other univerisities and find inspiration for possible improving of their self-driving cars. Victors of each regional levels that are held in more European places meet in a great finale.

Students take benefit of solving task of self-driving for their future practise.

Autonomous joint vehicles are a subject of intensive research in robotics field and are extraordinary interesting from a theoretical point of view – they belong to unsteady, strongly nonlinear, lowly actuatored and non-holonomic systems and for their managing advanced algoritms of cybernetics are necessary.

By this representative physical model we can find a lot of partial interesting topics at the level from Bachalor´s thesis to Doctoral thesis. The model enables to a user a research and development of his own algoritms of autonomous driving. The typical result is autonomoous movement of whole set on certain trajectory that is easy to make virtualization. The most interesting challenge is to programme a reversing of model from the start to the aim, also with driving around some obstacles. For solution of such task is needy to design an suitable referential trajectory and then control managing that will keep the set on these trajectories. For this purpose advanced algorithms so called modern theory of management are used. They are especially from the optimal management field that is a part of study programme Control and Information Systems. To a physical model there is also an virtual model that can be understood as a digital twin. With a mathematical and physical model you can work at different levels, from a simulation in system Matlab&Simulink to a realization of managing algorithms in managing system REXYGEN running in a real time in an inbuilt device ( for example Rasberry Pi) that carries the trailer vehicle.

The set is equipped besides navigation system VivePRO SteamVR Base Station 2.0 by sensors:

  • magnetic IRC for measuring joint angles and speed of vehicle
  • detection and measuring distance 2D – LIDAR

and action participants:

  • servomotor with high speed and accuracy for individual management of both front wheels
  • inphase motor for movement of vehicle
