These materials contribute to the disposal of old burdens, impacts of industrial and other disasters, cleaning of certain type of waste water and air, decontamination of designated spaces etc. It enables to improve quality of life andn decreases health risks, improve security of inhabitants and atractivness of the city of Ostrava for its ihabitants as well as decreases the number of people wanting to leave the region because of the bad environment.

Specific aims of the project are devided into three area. The first two are focused on preparation, characterisation and optimalization of preparation of various types og magnetic composites, reactive sorbents (on the base of CeO2, phyllosilicates and biological materials) that are effective in degradation process of organophosphorus pesticides, by the decomposition of the fire retardants, decontamination of surfaces affected by cytostatics capable of deposing of significant anorganic and organic pollutants from the environment. Thr third aim is a concept and realization of new types of optical SPR sensors that will have a small size, an affordable price and simple detect procedure and which in combination with appropriate materials enable detection of chemical and biological materials in environment, mainly heavy metals in drinking water and other pollutants in the air. By using nanocomposite metal layers the sensitivity of potical SPR sensors is increased a lot.

In view of project focusing students from Ph.D. programmes were engaged, mainly from Apllied physics and Nanotechnilogy from VŠB-TUO and Ecology and environment security from UJEP.
